Ghanaian actress, TV Presenter and former Big Brother Africa rep, Selly Galley got married to Hiplife musician and member of Praye music group, Cartel Big J last year, but it looks like we wont be hearing the cry of a baby from this couple anytime soon.
According to the actress, having a baby immediately is not a priority for her. She rather wants to focus on her budding TV and acting career.
Selly who spoke to the Graphic Showbiz in an interview, explained that even though in our African setting, everyone expects you to give birth immediately you get married, she wont fall for it. She said she’s a young woman with dreams and aspirations which she’ll like to accomplish so she needs to plan properly before bringing in children.
“I KNOW HOW THE AFRICAN CULTURE PUTS PRESSURE ON THE WOMAN TO GIVE BIRTH IMMEDIATELY AFTER MARRIAGE BUT I DON’T INTEND TO FALL TO THAT AT ALL. I’M A YOUNG LADY WHO HAS A LOT OF ASPIRATIONS FOR MY LIFE AND CAREER AND SO I NEED TO PLAN BEFORE I START MAKING BABIES.
AS THE ONLY CHILD OF MY MOTHER, I KNOW THIS IS QUITE A DIFFICULT DECISION TO MAKE BUT I HAVE EXPLAINED IT TO THOSE WHO MATTER AND THEY ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE.
Further more she said she wouldn’t like to give birth and leave him/her or them in the care of a nanny. She wants to play an active role in the development and training of her children.
“THIS IS WHAT I DREAD MOST AND THAT IS WHY I’VE DECIDED TO HOLD ON FOR NOW TO BUILD MY YOUNG CAREER AND WHEN I KNOW I WILL HAVE TIME FOR MY CHILDREN, I BRING THEM INTO THE WORLD.
I WANT TO PLAY A CRUCIAL ROLE IN MY CHILDREN’S LIVES JUST AS MY MUMMY DID FOR ME AND IT WOULD BE UNFAIR TO DEPRIVE MY CHILDREN OF MOTHERLY LOVE, ATTENTION AND CARE BECAUSE OF WORK.
MY CHILDREN WILL ALWAYS COME FIRST. THEY SHOULD BE MY PRIORITY WHEN THEY ARRIVE AND THAT IS WHY I WANT TO LAY A GOOD FOUNDATION BEFORE THEY DO. I BELIEVE THAT MAKING A FAMILY SHOULD BE PLANNED BECAUSE IT’S A JOURNEY AND NOT A DESTINATION,” SHE TOLD GRAPHIC SHOWBIZ.
